Louie Shelton is an incredibly gifted and accomplished guitarist, a man in demand as both a session musician and producer who first made his name back in the 60’s as a member of the top flight LA session players known as the Wrecking Crew.
In Part 1 of our Sound Distractions podcast Louie talked about his early influences, including Elvis Presley, who he met after the King performed at his high school!
Louie also revealed how he got his first big break by creating the distinctive riff for the Monkee’s Last Train to Clarksville, as well as many of the other sessions he worked on including everyone from the Jackson 5 to John Lennon.
In Part 2 of the podcast Louie Shelton’s career kicks into another gear when he moves into the world of record producing, most notably his successful partnership with Seals & Crofts who scored their biggest hits under his direction. Louie also talks about his later session work, including the creation of his uber cool urban guitar groove in Boz Scagg’s “Lowdown” and his stunning acoustic guitar solo in Lionel Richie’s “Hello”.
