Jack Grace releases his debut EP River today. The single All Lost is a stunning piece of work – a slice of electronica carrying a remarkable emotional depth. All Lost drips with warmth, heart and melancholy. No surprise that there have been comparisons to James Blake and Thom Yorke, but Kanye West – really? To me this track is more akin with some of Moby’s more elegant work and that’s a beautiful thing.
The real key on All Lost is the heady combination of real instruments combining with the electronica to give the song an impressive emotional weight. It’s something James Blake and Chet Faker for instance have used very effectively and now Jack Grace is following suit. But of course you need to be able to play that instrument with feeling to really give the song some soul and on that score Jack Grace delivers.
The piano chords on All Lost, while sparsely arranged throughout the song add a depth that might not seem that predominant, but if they weren’t there you’d be left with just a drum loop, a few sampled sounds and his vocal.
All Lost has already garnered over 180 000 streams online and Jack has just signed to the New York label Solitaire so Jack Grace is well and truly on his way. Immerse yourself and you will be All Lost.
