I Promise – Radiohead

This year marks the 2oth anniversary since the release of Radiohead’s landmark album OK Computer. Don’t get me started on how incredible this record is, I could bang on about it for a long , long time and no doubt will at some point on this blog – you have been warned!

Today comes the news that Radiohead (or at the very least the band’s record company) will mark the milestone with the release of the ludicrously long titled OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997 – 2017, which will include 3 previously unreleased songs from the OK Computer sessions and eight B sides (did the band really release eight singles from OK Computer?).  

Does it matter if there were eight singles with accompanying B sides at the time or that this new release has such an unappealing, long winded title? No, what matters is that there will be some previously unreleased material and fans will eat it up to the delight of the record company’s ringing cash registers.

If you don’t think there’ll be much interest in it, consider this: in the two days since the video for I Promise was posted it’s racked up just under 2 million views on You Tube alone. So rejoice Radiohead fans, if this glorious gem I Promise is any indication of what’s in store, like me you too will be digging deep into your pockets to purchase a copy of the original album all over again along with the bonus tracks.

A note to any band recording what you believe is going to be your masterpiece: save a few tracks from the session and put them in the vault, so that twenty years after you first release the album you can repackage your magnum opus and sell it all over again to double your profits. Oh, but when you do it, try to keep the album title uncomplicated. In this case OKNOTOK would have been just fine.
